Featured Employee - David Dun, 5th Year Sheet Metal Apprentice

David Dun, 4th Year Sheet Metal Apprentice

My name is David Dun, and I am a fifth year sheet metal apprentice employed by Sexton’s Mechanical Limited. I have been with this company for over a year and half, and in that time frame I have gained a vast amount of knowledge towards my trade and sheet metal fabrication as a whole.

Sexton’s Mechanical Limited has been family owned and operated in the City of Barrie since 1933, and offers an assortment of services from sheet metal, to plumbing. Several employees started as high school co-op students, and have established themselves a career here. What I love about working here is the variety of clients and jobs we encounter, we visit different locations, and receive constant training. While working with Sexton’s, I have learned to operate several machines, received valuable advice from colleagues, and have found an undying passion for my career. I have had the pleasure to learn from several mechanics, which have turned into my mentors and advisors. Sexton’s Mechanical Limited always produces quality product that I can proudly be a part of, and always let people know. The company has allowed me to attend trade school, where I have strived to maintain a mid-90 average, in hopes of bettering myself.

Sexton’s Mechanical Limited has an outstanding reputation that surrounds Lake Simcoe, and supports the City of Barrie. This company has broadened my own understanding of how a business should be properly run, and how employees should be treated. All employees have equal opportunities to learn, to teach, or sometimes both. One day, I can only wish to operate a business as successfully as Sexton’s Mechanical Limited has. They treat their employees with respect, allow for new learning opportunities, and have an open line of communication.

In conclusion, I believe that Sexton’s Mechanical Limited should be the City of Barrie’s Employer of the Year simply because they are well established and personable individuals. I know everyone on a first name basis, and an open-door policy is enforced to maintain a great work environment. Sexton’s deserves to be recognized for their hard work, and ability to maintain such a successful business all these years.

Thank-you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
David A.R. Dun
